My mother does the fruit and veggie shopping for me while I am in Malta. She knows where to find the best price and how to choose the freshest ones.
I would have bought the first ones I find which would turn out to be very ripe.
Whenever she finds a good offer she buys me a bunch of bananas which I use for my breakfast smoothie.
However, she doesn’t buy organic as my parents believe that the organic label is just a gimmick. They might be right or not, I wouldn’t know. Since I currently have a low income, I rarely buy organic products while I am in Malta.
In Germany, I buy not all organic but more organic products than I do in Malta. It seems that the non-organic products in Malta cost the same as the affordable organic products in Germany.
Malta is a small country so I don’t pretend that they will match Germany’s price. However, as soon as I start getting a decent income again I will consider buying more organic products from Malta.
As promised, find below the recipe for my current breakfast smoothie.
Breakfast Smoothie Recipe Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp cacao
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 date
Optional:
- 1 tsp wheatgrass powder
- 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
Breakfast Smoothie Recipe Method
Blend all ingredients in a blender. Add some ice cubes, or use a frozen banana instead.
Currently, my parents’ garden produced lots of plums. Since I find plums too sweet to eat I am adding them to my breakfast smoothie. I am doubling the above recipe, and replace the dates and one of the two bananas with 6 plums.
I am no nutritionist or juice therapist so I can’t tell what benefits this smoothie has. What I know is that all of the ingredients listed are currently considered to be healthy and nutritious. If you wish me to list the benefits of each ingredient, let me know and I can do that in another post.
