4 Facts About Wool

This is probably the last post I am posting in this fashion series, as I can’t think of another animal derived material used in clothes. So today I will be listing some facts about wool.

  • Sheep are meant to grow enough wool to protect themselves from extreme temperatures
  • Often skin is ripped during shearing including nipples, ears and tails
  • “Mulesing” is a procedure used in Australia where chunks of skin are cut from lambs’ backside, often without painkillers
  • Cotton, Cotton Flannel, Polyester Fleece, Synthetic Shearling are some alternatives to wool

These are the facts I found about wool. Do you know of others? Your input could help others in choosing animal-free.
