I never bought and don’t remember using Vaseline, but I notice that many buy it for multiple uses. In case you happen to be one of the Vaseline fans, I thought of sharing the cruelty-free status of this product which many health-conscious people claim it to be toxic for humans. I cannot prove its toxicity as I am not a chemist or doctor. However, I can prove its cruelty-free status.

Vaseline is owned by Unilever. PETA lists Unilever as a company “working toward regulatory changes to reduce the number of animals used for testing.” However, while they are still selling cosmetics in Mainland China, I consider them to be not cruelty-free. I don’t put them in a middle list as it becomes then more complicated to you who are trying to live cruelty-free.

Apart from the popular petroleum jelly, Vaseline seems to have expanded their range to hand creams and body lotions. These product types are considered to be cosmetics in Mainland China. So Vaseline sells cosmetics in Mainland China. Mainland China is removing the option of animal testing in some market stages. However, there is still no news on whether it has been removed when a customer reports an irritation due to a product. So until that news is announced, we have to consider than in such cases the Chinese authorities go for animal testing to test the safety of the reported product.
