The last Nivea product I have bought was around 4 years ago. Till then I was under the impression that Nivea was. However, when I checked again I found out that PETA has started listing Beiersdorf (Nivea’s parent company) as tested on animals. Usually, PETA specifies whether some child brands test also on animals or not. However, in the case of Beiersdorf, they did not at first. So I assumed that all Beiersdorf brands are considered as not cruelty-free.
Does Nivea test on animals?
- “Beiersdorf, the organisation behind the NIVEA brand, does not test on animals. As a global company, all our affiliates including Australia and New Zealand, are aligned on this stance. We believe animal testing is not required to prove the safety and effectiveness of our products.”
Due to the ban in the EU, no brand which I examined until now says that it tests on animals. So from this paragraph that I pasted from their policy, I can say that no Beiersdorf and its brands do not test on animals.

Is Nivea cruelty-free?
- “In China, however, animal testing is mandated by law for the official registration and certification of the safety of certain product categories. In this case, the tests are conducted by local institutions authorised by the state, not by the companies selling the product.”
Here they are mentioning that some of their products are tested to be able to sell in China. Nowadays if some of your products are tested on animals, the whole brand is not cruelty-free, as cruelty-free depends on the overall brand, not per product. So we have this statement from Nivea and the listing from PETA to prove that Nivea is not cruelty-free.
